Food Heaven: Trippy Taco, Veg Out & Vegie Bar

Where do I begin!? Looking through my iPhone photos from the last six weeks, I’ve just been completely loving finding new places to eat and tasting new products and packing my awesome lunches. I’ve been in food heaven! I actually managed to get to two new restaurants as well as managing a trip back to Vegie Bar to try and continue my expansion of knowledge of the menu past the House Salad. I know, watch out!

After a friend’s exhibition launch, it was necessary to get something warm and comforting, to me that screams Vegie Bar. So on the left is the Mushroom noodley thing starting with F (I’m the best blogger EVER) which is what my friend ordered and on the right is the Cajun Stew with Sweet Potato crisps on brown rice. Even with a stuffy nose the flavour was inredible and actually went really well with the Sangria, but I also had a glass of organic red wine too. Tasty. So glad I branched out and got this one. I did get the Mostly Greens with Tempeh last time and I’m pretty sure I know what I’ll get next time. I was craving the Chocolate Royale cake (Vegan AND gluten free) but then the Pumpkin Pie dessert pizza caught my eye but after the stew I couldn’t fit it in. Balls.

Near my new workplace there is a place called Veg Out Time and their tagline is The Power of Positive Eating. Love it! They have a bain marie service full of curries and also made to order soups, noodles & rice dishes. It’s all pretty cheap. I got three curries on brown rice for under $10 and they were amazing. Green curried vegetables, mushroom & tofu curry and a chickpea & potato curry in a tomato sauce. It was heaven, I was so stuffed afterwards. The other dish is from my second visit; a vegetable dumpling noodle soup. It had shiitake mushrooms, tofu, rice noodles, plenty of seasonal vegies and the most amazing vegetable dumplings. I was cold and sick and miserable and it was just what I needed. Definitely worth braving Chapel Street on a Friday night for.

I love Mexican food. Love love love. I walk past where they’re opening a Salsas Fresh Mex Grill near me three times a week just to check their progress. When I went to Taco Bill and they said they couldn’t make me stuff without cheese, I was very depressed. There’s only so many times you can have avocado salad, refried beans and corn chips for dinner (it’s about a dozen…) but when I discovered Trippy Taco I think I actually died and went to Vegan food heaven. My housemate and I got chips and salsa to share plus a Corona each and a quesadilla each and it was around $30 total. Again, I couldn’t fit dessert in, but they have a dessert quesadilla made with chocolate-hazelnut spread, with a Vegan option. Heaven, I’m telling you. But yes, Vegan special quesadilla with avocado, black beans, tomato, Vegan cheese, etc. Actually completely amazing. Was a bit disappointed that I asked if all the beers were Vegan-friendly and they didn’t know, but I figured I was safe with Corona anyway so no big deal.

There’s a few another places on my To Do list now, so I’m very excited to get a-splorin’ and see what else is out there. Nom nom nom!
